A retreat for all Franciscan Friars, hosted by the St Barbara Province
Presenter: Keith Douglass Warner OFM
Pope Francis has ushered in a Franciscan moment in the Catholic Church: how will Franciscan Friars respond?
This retreat will draw out the Franciscan spirituality of Laudato Si and imagine how we might live our vocations as brothers to all creation. Mornings will address the classic themes in our Franciscan tradition presented by Laudato Si, such as praise, love, penance, the pursuit of beauty, and ecological vocation. Afternoons will provide space for silent prayer or for creation walks, reflecting upon our relationship with earth, air and water. Evenings will offer guided meditations or fraternal reflection. Friars from all provinces are encouraged to attend.
Presenter: Br. Keith, OFM is co-author of Care for Creation: A Franciscan Spirituality of the Earth (with Ilia Delio, OSF and Pamela Wood), published by St. Anthony Messenger Press (2008). He teaches social entrepreneurship and sustainable development at Santa Clara University, and he lives at St. Francis Retreat, where he serves as
guardian.
Liturgy and Music Coordinators: Br. Rufino Zaragoza, OFM, and Becky Ramirez will be coordinating the prayer services for the retreat. The liturgies for the week will incorporate a variety of musical styles and languages, giving voice to our love of God, Church and creation. Rufino is a musician, composer, and liturgist who draws on diverse cultural themes to provide rich experiences of spirituality and prayer. He is member of the St. Barbara Province, and works as a liturgical music consultant, based in Orange County, CA.
Rebecca’s passion for music and its capacity to cross borders and touch the hearts of all people has led her to serve the Church as a music minister. She has worked with various regional and national groups, including the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC), Los Angeles Religious Education Congress and USCCB committee for Evangelization and Cultural Diversity.
